How can we help?

Being a carer can be a demanding job, especially caring for someone with dementia. It brings up an array of mixed emotions, and you can feel alone and isolated in this role. There is the risk of becoming overwhelmed with the daily activities, and this can challenge your well-being.

Having a person who is willing to listen and understand how you feel can be the world. A confidential outlet can provide the haven where you can offload and explore those pent-up emotions. I provide a time to be you, and you can discover your whispering hope.

Dementia and Carer Support

Loss and Bereavement Counselling

Loss and Bereavement or a loss of anything significant in your life can cause an array of sad emotions we just aren't used to. Having experienced many losses in my life, I am able to find a starting point in understanding how you are feeling. Loss is a very unique experience, and no two experiences can be the same. You may feel angry, confused, and afraid, unable to imagine a future without your loss, I’m here for you. I offer a non-judgemental approach when supporting you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. I can help you make sense of your loss and support you each step of the way.

Anticipatory Grief

Living with a terminal diagnosis can impact your life and the life of those around you. Individuals can fear what lies ahead. Hope can be lost, and with the outward signs of deterioration, there can be a decline in emotional wellbeing. You may find it difficult or awkward to ask questions or afraid to talk about death because of the fear of upsetting others.

I offer a compassionate and understanding ear for you to offload your fears and provide that whispering hope and comfort.

Depression can affect anyone at any stage of life. It produces a feeling of hopeless and worthlessness you just can't shake. Depression can be a reaction to a life event, or there can be no apparent cause. The feelings can be triggered by thoughts we have. I can help by giving you techniques to help change your negative thought processes. CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can help with this.

Anxiety is a fear that something bad is going to happen to you. Your mind becomes fixated on what you believe will happen next. Symptoms include breathlessness, sweating, heart racing sensations, nausea, and dizziness, which aggravates anxiety. There seems to be no respite from your distress.

I can help you understand the physiological symptoms of anxiety and source the root cause of your thinking. I can help with relaxation techniques that will reduce your symptoms.

CBT is a good tool to help overcome anxiety.

Low Self- Esteem

Having a belief that you are hopeless and a failure can create low self-esteem. Having low self-esteem affects your confidence, so it affects your relationships and many other aspects of your life. I’ve been there and thought this myself. The good news is that counselling can help. Again, using CBT techniques and tapping into your own strengths can help build resilience in life, building self-acceptance.

Age Related Difficulties

Ageing is a natural transition that causes changes in our lives. It can be difficult to adapt to such changes such as retirement, age related illnesses and physical changes, menopause, loss of self-worth, loss of friends, loss of ability, etc. Some people may face isolation and loneliness because of the physical and financial changes in their life. Talking about your thoughts and feelings confidentially can help.
